Turitea Pā

Turitea Pā is one of Palmerston Norths city’s most culturally significant sites. A tall viewing platform once stood on this same site called Te Pūhara o Turitea (the sentry watchtower of Turitea). The lookout gave Rangitāne people an unobstructed 360-degree view of anyone coming up or down the river. The pūhara was over nine metres tall and formed part of a network strategically placed lookouts along the Manawatū River and at various inland locations. Working in close collaboration with Rangitāne and Palmerston North city council we co-designed the a new pūhara once again offering 360-degree views.
